Pointing was the photographer on the ill-fated Antarctic expedition of 1910-13 during which Captain Scott and his companions died after reaching the South Pole. Pointing's fame was assured by the superb still and moving images he brought back, taken with cumbersome equipment in very difficult conditions. The photographic plates, like this, were also processed by Pointing in the Antarctic base camp.
