A favourite of Henry VIII, the Mary Rose was launched around 1510.
One of the first purpose built war ships, she took part in many wars but her career ended when she sank accidentally during an engagement with the French Fleet in the Solent in 1545. The wreck was found in 1970 and was raised 12 years later. The remains of the Mary Rose are now being conserved and are on display in Portsmouth.
