Terra Nova Antarctic Expedition Compass & Case
In June 1910, Terra Nova sailed from Cardiff Docks under overall command of Captain Scott. In celebration of the important scientific legacy left by the Terra Nova Expedition, officially the British Antarctic Expedition, we're pleased to offer this functional compass in a sturdy case for today's explorer.
Featuring a bold design inspired by the emblem of the 1912 British Antarctic Expedition led by Captain Robert F Scott.
Exclusive to Royal Museums Greenwich. Part of the Terra Nova collection, which includes matching drinks flask and clothing items. Created in response to the new Polar Worlds gallery at the National Maritime Museum.
The official Terra Nova emblem was designed by Edward Wilson, the expedition’s chief scientist and artist and was used on all the officers’ cutlery, dinnerware and on headed notepaper. Examples of artefacts featuring this logo can be seen in the new gallery.+ Read more - Show less
