Assam Loose Leaf Tea
In 1778 The East India Company decided that it need tea plantations in India if it was going to break the Chinese monopoly of the tea trade. They decided to introduce tea plants in the Calcutta Botanical Gardens and by 1834 they discovered that the shrub that planted was indigenous to Upper Assam.
Following this The East India Company shipped it's first tea chests to London in 1838 - this Assam blend celebrates the pioneering efforts in the late 18th Century which led to a huge growth of the tea industry in India.
