Battle of Trafalgar Tea Towel
One of the National Maritime Museum's most unusual items, Heath's panorama is now featured on a tea towel.
This tea towel features the stern view of Nelson's double column order of battle at the Battle of Trafalgar.
The panoramic by William Heath (1795-1840) was originally mounted as a complete circle about 32 feet long. Only a few spectators at a time would have been able to view it, but stepping up into the centre from below to create the illusion that the viewer was standing in the middle of the battle.
The original materials are watercolour on sheets of paper laid on calico. Given the size of the object, the original painting remains in storage at the National Maritime Museum.+ Read more - Show less
