Porcelain Pocket Globe

Regular price £0.00 £1,000.00 Sale

A limited edition porcelain pocket globe, handmade in London exclusively for Royal Observatory Greenwich by cartographer and ceramicist Loraine Rutt, founder of The Little Globe Co.

Loraine’s contemporary porcelain globes are an homage to the 18th century pocket globes that delighted in exploration and world discovery; several of which can be found in our collections.

Bespoke oak case with handpainted celestial chart based on Samuel Dunn's celestial gores from 1782 (Found in RMG’s collection - GLB0218).

Based on accurate survey data – working from a series of precise models and moulds – the topographically correct globe is individually scribed with the outlines of continents, islands and marked with lines of longitude, latitude and the tropics.

For this piece, Loraine wanted to relate directly to the Observatory – the Prime Meridian is picked out in cobalt on the globe.

Globe 75mm diameter, supplied with clear acrylic base 75mm x 75mm x15mm
