The Waipapa Point Lighthouse is built on a platform on a small hill overlooking the ocean and the Antarctic continent. The isolated cape Waipapa lighthouse is a paradise for wild sea lions. Every time the Sun goes down, the lights of the lighthouse begin to flash, illuminating the direction of home for the ships at sea. The Milky Way, the Large Magellanic Cloud, the Small Magellanic Cloud and the Southern Cross asterisms are also visible and give direction to those on board. This striking Milky Way is the sky’s most beautiful reward for the lighthouse and the people of the continent.
