The astrolabe (which means star-taker in Greek) is used to tell the time during both the day and night, and to find the time and length of sunrise. It can also be used to identify celestial objects in the night sky in order to determine latitude.

Perfected by Arabic and Persian astronomers, by the end of the seventeenth century the Astrolabe was the most used instrument in the history of Astronomy.

This highly detailed and decorative astrolabe is made from brass effect alloy and would make a wonderful gift for the astrological or time historian.
