I took this image on the final night of a seven-week road trip throughout the western US. I used a stack of five separate, untracked exposures to capture this image. Each exposure was 13 seconds long. I set my camera to intervalometer mode, which continuously captures images, and then scrambled down to this spot to pose in place for a few minutes. For processing, I chose the five sharpest images and then stacked them in Starry Landscape Stacker. I processed the image in Adobe Lightroom. Bringing out the shadow detail without much noise was only possible by using the stacked image. For me, the image serves as a memory of the trip of a lifetime, and I feel like it adequately captures something I love doing so much – looking up at the night sky and wondering about its origin. I took it with the hope of inspiring others to do the same.
