A veritable treasure trove

Wow! What a fabulous little publication.

My wife and I visited the RMG - specifically the National Maritime Museum and The Queen’s House - in April, 2023. And I bought this, as a memento of our visit, at a ‘special offer’ price of £10.

I’m so glad I did. It’s utterly fabulous.

In the vein of the popular ‘History of [whatever] in 100 Objects’, there are 100 numbered entries in a book of just over 200 pages.

Each item - ranging from the tiny and seemingly mundane (a half-coconut shell, for example), to the enormous (the entire Cutty Sark!) - is illustrated with superb photography, and an illuminating accompanying text.

The many expert contributors to this superb work have collected a very exciting and informative body of ‘treasures’ here, making them easily accessible to the interested reader.

Personal favourites for me are the numerous classic maritime paintings, the many exquisite ship models, and such scientific instruments (and works of art) as some of the jaw-dropping astrolabes, clocks, globes, and suchlike.

An excellent publication that’s easy to read and terrific to dip into. Packed with fascinating artefacts beautifully presented. A wealth of knowledge and inspiration in a small portable package.

Highly recommended!

We are so pleased you are enjoying your book! Thank you for your review, it makes a big difference in reaching more people that can help support the future of our sites.
